Summer Storage Terms and Conditions

The Customer sets the pick-up date and time. USS reserves the right to reschedule such times without prior notice to the Customer.

For storage services, USS will make available packaging materials approximately one week prior to the commencement of the university move-out week. USS will notify the Customer in advance of the dates, times, and locations where the USS materials can be obtained. It is the responsibility of the Customer to make arrangements to pick up the packaging materials during the times specified.

USS will not pick up any items that are not properly packed in USS boxes or other appropriate shipping materials and that are not appropriately labeled. The Customer is responsible for all damage to belongings inside the USS packaging materials or anything else when caused by any items present in the packing materials. It is the Customer’s responsibility to pack his/her boxes or shipping boxes by his/her scheduled pick-up time. The storage registration is only refundable two weeks prior to the chosen pick-up date unless your student has already received/picked up boxes.

In the case of shipping storage items home, USS cannot open or separate packaged items. Items must either be shipped all together or donated.

    • Northeastern in Boston, MA is not eligible for early delivery

Insurance

USS provides basic insurance against loss and/or damages up to $100 per order. USS also provides the option to purchase additional insurance at $19.95 which increases the value to $1000 per order. In addition, USS allows the customer to purchase a maximum amount of (3) insurance protection plans at $1,000 each for maximum coverage of $3,000 total per order. USS strongly recommends the purchase of additional insurance if the replacement value of the Customer’s possessions exceeds $100 per box or package. Additional insurance is available (up to $1,000 per storage/shipping order) at a specified rate and available at the time of registration. If no additional insurance is purchased by the Customer, the Customer agrees that the released value of each package is no greater than $100 and that USS’s liability is limited to $100. The insurance does NOT cover the following: taxes related to the purchase of any item, shipping cost related to the purchase of any items, jewelry, collectibles, cash, items of intangible value, metal or plastic shelving that is not disassembled, extremely fragile items; i.e. mirrors, improperly packed items, unboxed TV's, any damage caused by liquid or force majeure. This includes TVs and mattress pads that are not properly packed or covered. Any boxes or totes that are over the 50lb weight limit are also not eligible for USS coverage or reimbursement.

USS provides only coverage which is secondary to Customer’s primary coverage which is his or her homeowner’s or renter’s insurance (or that of his or her parents).  USS makes no representation concerning the adequacy of its insurance coverage or coordination of its insurance coverage with that of Customer.  Coordination of insurance coverage is solely the responsibility of Customer.  The Customer agrees to first claim any loss against any insurance carried by the Customer or the Customer’s parents, if available. The Customer will make claims against USS only after exhausting other areas of coverage.

To the extent that the Customer does not obtain insurance coverage for the full value of his personal property stored or shipped with USS, the Customer hereby agrees to assume all risk of loss, including damage or loss by burglary, fire, rust, water, changes in temperature, fumigation, vermin or other insects, or vandalism. USS and its employees, authorized representatives, agents, and affiliates will not be responsible for, and the Customer hereby releases from, any loss, liability, claim, expense, damage to property or injury to persons that could have been insured (including without limitation any loss arising from the active or passive acts, omission or negligence of USS or its agents, affiliates, authorized representatives and employees).

Damaged items must have evidence of physical damage to the exterior of the box or packaging of the item. USS cannot be held liable for concealed damage to items within a crate, trunk, or other casing without physical damage to the exterior of the package. Damage to the exterior of the box, trunk, or other casing does not result in a presumption of liability by USS.

Missing or damaged items must be reported to USS within two (2) days of delivery/move-in.

The claims window begins as soon as the student receives the items in hand.

Storage Payment

Storage fees are charged to the card on file immediately following the pick up of the items. If storage is extended for any additional sessions, payment is charged to the card on file at the start of each new session. Our storage sessions are per semester and as follows, Summer (May-Aug), Fall (Aug-December), and Spring (Jan-April). Delivery and/or pick up fees may be required if a delivery or pick up is requested during the session and/or outside of the mass student deliveries/pick ups.

Study Abroad

Customer acknowledges that USS will charge additional storage fees for extending storage. Customer accepts USS's policy of storing items for four months at a time and each account will be charged at the beginning of each new semester.

Example: If you owe $300 for summer storage, for instance, you will also owe $300 for fall and/or spring storage.

Failure to Pay Storage Fees

USS reserves the right to take ownership of the items in storage if payment is not received within 60 days of the pick up and/or the start of a new session. Once USS has taken ownership, USS reserves the right to donate the items.

    • Should any items be requested to be returned immediately following the pick-up (within 24hrs) due to failure to pay storage fees or refusal to pay storage fees, a $240.00 fee could be incurred. This is not a definite choice; it depends on the crew's availability.

Ownership of Property
The Customer has represented and warranted to USS that he/she is the legal owner or in lawful possession of the property and has the legal right and authority to contract for services of all of the property tendered to USS.

Abandonment
The Customer agrees that his failure to be present on the scheduled delivery date and time his failure to communicate with USS concerning an alternate delivery arrangement constitutes abandonment of his stored possessions.

Customer agrees to pay USS for all charges and fees relating to the failed delivery and/or further storage and shipping costs related to abandonment of customer property. USS has the right to assume ownership of the abandoned property after 30 days of the originally scheduled delivery date.
